EDUC 216 UCSC Field-Based Learning Initiative (FBLI)

Supports student teachers in designing K-12 curriculum which is centered on equitable field-based learning. Field-based learning is an approach in which teaching is extended to a site outside of the classroom, exposing students to a real-world setting. Students learn through direct interaction with an environment that reflects taught concepts rather than learning through indirect presentations of the setting such as textbooks or lectures. The goals of FBLI are to empower diverse educators to in turn empower their students via equitable field-based learning opportunities, ultimately fostering diverse leadership, voices, and cultural traditions, leading to just and thriving communities.
