MUSC 254H The Lauryn Hill Seminar

This seminar engages the artistic and intellectual work of an undisputed icon of the Hip Hop generation: Lauryn Noelle Hill. Through critical framing, close reading, deep listening, peer critique, and discussion, students examine Black music, Black womanhood, and Black cultural production, with which Hill’s work emerges, converses, and complicates. This is an advanced graduate seminar. Students are expected to read, listen, analyze, argue, and write at the highest level.
