HAVC 151 Ancient Greek Myths and Their Gender Constructs

Myths were particularly prominent in the culture and visual production of the ancient Greek world. How did they codify mainstream socio-cultural ideals? How did they reflect and promote established power relations? How did they impact men and women in their lives and interactions? Through examination of select visual and textual material, we explore gender constructs and relevant socio-cultural values articulated through ancient Greek myths up to the Roman period.
